2014 Baseball Hall of Fame Clad Half Dollars Will Be Convex/Concave

The United States Mint has announced that the clad half dollar included in the upcoming National Baseball Hall of Fame Commemorative Coin Program will be minted in the same convex/concave shape that will be used for the program’s $5 gold coin and silver dollar.

The commemorative coin program to mark the 75th anniversary of the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York was authorized under Public Law 112-152. The law expressed the sense of the Congress that to the extent possible the $5 gold coins and silver dollars should be minted so that the reverse of the coin is convex to more closely resemble a baseball and the obverse design should be concave for a dramatic display of the design.
