A GROUP of local metal detector users has unearthed five 400-year-old coins dating from the time of Elizabeth I on the Garendon Estate.

The Loughborough Coin and Search Society’s discovery came on September 29, 2013, on land owned by Squire De Lisle near Bedlam Farm, Hathern.

All five silver sixpences date from between 1560 and 1582, predating the Spanish Armada and William Shakespeare’s move to London.
