Annual state coin show, convention this weekend

GREENVILLE — The South Carolina Numismatic Association’s 40th annual Coin Show and Convention will be held Oct. 26-28 at the TD Convention Center in Greenville.

The bourse hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

The event will offer a 100-plus-table dealer bourse area and collector exhibits. Dealers in coins and paper money from across the Southeast will be on hand to buy, sell and trade coins, tokens, medals, currency and paper money.

Many dealers will provide free, informal appraisals for visitors who bring coins and paper money. Free appraisals will also be available from the Independent Coin Grading Service.

A gold panning exhibit will be available for anyone wishing to try their hand at panning for gold.

The general membership meeting of the SCNA will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. An educational program on “The Tokens of Greenville, SC” will be given by Tony Chibbaro at noon.

Bob Hartje will present a young numismatist program at 1 p.m. Saturday, designed for ages 8 to 18. Participants will learn why and when money is good, and why it is accepted or not accepted for certain transactions. A short play titled “Beg, Borrow and Steal — The Financing of the American Revolution” will also be featured.
