LAYTON — While crowds gathered at LDS General Conference only a few miles to the south in Salt Lake City, an impressive display of Mormon history at the Davis Conference Center drew quite a few spectators as well.

Douglas Nyholm’s collection of Mormon currency valued at $500,000 was one of several at the Ogden Coin Club’s 41st Annual Northern Utah Coin Show, held Friday and Saturday in Layton.

Nyholm’s collection featured paper currency and coins dating back to the Mormons’ first endeavors into banking in Kirtland, Ohio, in 1837.

Paper currency signed by Mormon prophets Joseph Smith and Brigham Young were just a small sampling of what Nyholm had to offer. Still-spendable United States $50 bills signed by Mormon prophet Heber J. Grant also drew much interest from spectators at the show.
