Latest Auction Makes Pogue Collection Most Valuable Ever Sold

1793 Flowing Hair Chain cent.

A third installment of the Brent D. Pogue Collection brought in $17,135,612.50 at auction this past weekend at a sale conducted by Stack’s Bowers Galleries in association with Sotheby’s in New York City. This brings the overall total realized by sales of the Pogue collection to $68,577,182, more than any other single collection in history.

The Garrett 1793 Flowing Hair Chain cent, graded MS-65 RB by PCGS, brought in the largest sum of the auction at $998,750. Another significant portion of the overall total came from 11 half cents that brought in a combined $4,159,500.
