Ibex Coins, on behalf of the Republic of Chad, has released the first of an intriguing new series of high-relief silver coins called “Gargoyles and Grotesques.” The subjects, as the name suggests, are those strange and fantastical creatures that have decorated buildings since ancient times, peering from the peaks of gothic windows, crouching on rooftops, and scaring away evil spirits. Artist “Strikes” Buffalo Nickel in Oreo

Artist Javier Fiore made good use of a snack and a safety pin last week when he carved an impressively detailed likeness of a Buffalo nickel’s obverse into the cream filling of an Oreo cookie.

Coin World points out that Fiore posted an image of his work to the Facebook page of the Original Hobo Nickel Society, where it joined a wide variety of creative coin designs rendered by an array of artists and enthusiasts.
