In an article by Paul Gilkes, Coin World has shared U.S. Mint mock-ups (shown above) for the 2017 palladium bullion coins. The obverse is an exact and finely detailed rendering of the classic Winged Liberty dime obverse by Adolph A. Weinman. The word LIBERTY encircles the field above the effigy, while IN.GOD / WE.TRUST is placed in the lower left field, the designer’s initials in the lower right field, and the date, 2017, below Liberty’s neck. Last Friday (September 16), the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) held its scheduled meeting at the United States Mint in Washington, D.C. On the agenda were the candidate designs for the 2018-2020 American Eagle Platinum Proof Program “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness,” as well as the election of jurors for the Breast Cancer Awareness Commemorative Coin Design Competition. Members of the public were invited to attend the open session of the meeting.

The U.S. Mint has shared potential designs for its upcoming 2018, 2019, and 2020 American Eagle Platinum Proof coins. The designs will be discussed at the next Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee Meeting, scheduled to take place tomorrow, September 16. The candidates are included below with an introduction and descriptions provided by the Mint.

The designs for next year’s America the Beautiful quarters have been made official. Earlier today, the U.S. Mint shared the line art for the reverses of its five upcoming 2017 quarters, which will respectively feature Effigy Mounds National Monument in Iowa, Frederick Douglass National Historic Site in Washington, D.C., Ozark National Scenic Riverways in Missouri, Ellis Island (Statue of Liberty National Monument) in New Jersey, and George Rogers Clark National Historical Park in Indiana. Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee Seeks Two New Members

The Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee has announced that it is seeking applications for two new members–one qualified to represent the “interests of the general public” and the other known for expertise in “numismatic curation.”

The positions entail making recommendations to the Secretary of the U.S. Treasury on topics such as coin and medal designs, commemorative themes, and mintage levels for commemorative coins. Each member serves a four-year term and is reimbursed for travel expenses related to the committee’s 6-8 yearly meetings.
