Sales Decline for American Gold and Silver Eagle Bullion Coins

Sales levels for the United States Mint’s American Gold and Silver Eagle bullion coins declined during the month of May 2015. Declines were marked compared to both the prior month as well as the year ago period.

The monthly sales for the one ounce American Silver Eagle bullion coins reached 2,023,500 ounces. This was down compared to the prior month sales of 2,851,500 ounces and down significantly from the year ago period sales of 3,988,500.

The latest monthly sales total for Silver Eagle bullion coins is the lowest figure since July 2014.

The Federal Mint Swissmint has released a new commemorative gold coin which marks 2000 years of Aventicum. The obverse design carries an image of the famous Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius.

Aventicum, the capital city of the Helvetii, whose territory once stretched over nearly all of the Swiss Plateau region, had almost 20,000 inhabitants in the third century AD. The city was constructed at the start of the first century AD, shortly after the territory of the Helvetii was annexed to the Roman Empire. The Royal Australian Mint will soon release a new commemorative coin which recognizes those who devoted their lives to manning and maintaining lighthouses in Australia and celebrates their contribution to a century of aids to navigation.

When the Commonwealth of Australia officially accepted responsibility for all landfall and coastal lights around Australia, it comprised of 167 lighthouses, 103 of which were manned. With the introduction of solar power, all off grid beacons were converted to electricity. From the 1980’s there was a concerted effort to automate the remaining 41 manned lighthouses. The task was completed on August 22, 1996.

The latest weekly United States Mint numismatic product sales report includes the debut figures for the 2015 Mamie Eisenhower First Spouse Gold Coins and the Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential $1 Coin Cover.

The US Mint began accepting orders for the Mamie Eisenhower First Spouse Gold Coins on May 7, 2015. Available in proof and uncirculated versions, the coins featured an obverse portrait of the First Lady and a reverse design representing Mrs. Eisenhower’s popularity and involvement in her husband’s presidential campaigns. A maximum mintage of 10,000 pieces was established across both proof and uncirculated versions.

The Royal Canadian Mint has started accepting orders for their latest $20 for $20 silver coin, which features the iconic cartoon character Bugs Bunny.

Earlier this month, the Royal Canadian Mint had launched an ambitious program of gold and silver collector coins featuring Looney Tunes characters. This included a set of eight $10 silver coins, a set of four $20 silver coins, a $20 Merrie Melodies silver coin, a 14 karat gold coin featuring Bugs Bunny and friends, and gold and silver kilo sized coins featuring the Looney Tunes characters with Bugs Bunny highlighted in selective colored enamel.

As of this morning, the United States Mint’s 2015 March of Dimes Special Silver Set has received orders totaling 66,109 units. This accounts for 88.15% of the established product limit of 75,000 units.

The March of Dimes Special Silver Set is issued as part of the March of Dimes Commemorative Coin Program, which was authorized under Public Law 112-209 to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the organization. Earlier this year, the US Mint opened sales for individual proof and uncirculated versions of the silver dollar. The Central Bank of the Russian Federation has just released a silver proof commemorative coin which marks the 50th anniversary of the first man to walk in space.

On March 18, 1965, Cosmonaut Alexey Leonov exited the capsule during the Voskhod 2 mission for a 12-minute spacewalk. He became the first human to conduct extra-vehiclar activity, meaning any activity done by an astronaut or cosmonaut outside a spacecraft beyond the Earth’s appreciable atmosphere. Alexei Leonov is still alive at the age of 80.

The Royal Canadian Mint has launched a new series, which for the first time incorporates black light technology to enhance the design. The four coin series is entitled “Weather Phenomenon” with two releases schedule for this year and two releases the following year.

The first coin in the series carries a depiction of a summer storm. The latest weekly United States Mint numismatic product sales report contains the opening figure for the recently released 2015 Proof American Gold Buffalo.

The US Mint began accepting orders for the 2015 Proof Gold Buffalo on April 9, 2015. The one ounce 24 karat gold coins feature James Earle Fraser’s classic 1913 Type 1 Buffalo Nickel design. The coins were offered without a stated product limit or household ordering limits. The initial pricing was $1,590 per coin based on a weekly average gold price within the $1,200 to $1,249.99 range.

As part of this year’s March of Dimes Commemorative Coin Program, the United States Mint will be offering a limited edition collector set which includes specially produced Roosevelt Dimes.

The program was authorized under Public Law 112-209 to recognize and celebrate the 75th anniversary of the March of Dimes Foundation. Silver dollars with an overall maximum mintage of 500,000 pieces will be issued in proof and uncirculated qualities. The obverse design of the coin contains profile portraits of Franklin D. Roosevelt and Dr. Jonas Salk and the reverse design depicts a baby cuddled in the hand of a parent.
