Hungary: Esteemed Hungarian composer featured on new silver coin

The National Bank of Hungary have issued (24th June) a new coin which pays tribute to one of the country’s most respected and esteemed music composers, who is also remembered as a folk-dance researcher. László Lajtha was born 125 years this month in 1892. His contribution to Hungarian arts and music resulted in a resurgence of Hungarian folk dancing during the decade of the 1970’s.

The coin is produced by the Mint of Hungary at their facilities in Budapest on behalf of the National Bank. The obverse of the coin is designed by Andrea Horváth and depicts a couple folk dancing… Full article at the source>

The U.S. Mint has announced that it will highlight tomorrow’s launch of the 2016 National Park Service 100 Anniversary Commemorative Coins by opening sales of the issues at the Lincoln Memorial on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The Mint’s Principal Deputy Director Rhett Jeppson will join National Park Foundation President Will Shafroth and N.P.S. Deputy Director Peggy O’Dell as hosts of the event, which will take place from noon until 1 p.m. ET.

The U.S. Mint has delayed the release of the 2016 Mark Twain Commemorative Silver Coins, originally scheduled to launch on January 14, the same day as the gold Twain commemoratives. Now the silver issues are expected to go on sale two weeks later on Wednesday, January 27, along with rolls, bags, and boxes of the 2016 Native American $1 coin.

Michael White of the Mint’s Office of Corporate Communications told Mint News Blog that the Mint simply wants to ensure there is enough inventory on hand to handle the launch.

The Royal Australian Mint will soon release a new commemorative coin which recognizes those who devoted their lives to manning and maintaining lighthouses in Australia and celebrates their contribution to a century of aids to navigation.

When the Commonwealth of Australia officially accepted responsibility for all landfall and coastal lights around Australia, it comprised of 167 lighthouses, 103 of which were manned. With the introduction of solar power, all off grid beacons were converted to electricity. From the 1980’s there was a concerted effort to automate the remaining 41 manned lighthouses. The task was completed on August 22, 1996.

The United States Mint has just revealed preliminary details for a 2015 March of Dimes Special Set, which will be released as part of the commemorative coin program.

The program was authorized under Public Law 112-209 to recognize and celebrate the 75th anniversary of the March of Dimes Foundation. Up to 500,000 silver dollars will be issued with an obverse design containing profile portraits of Franklin D. Roosevelt and Dr. Jonas Salk and a reverse design depicting a baby cuddled in the hand of a parent.
